How To Stage Your Outdoor Space & Boost Your Home’s Appeal

How To Stage Your Outdoor Space

Every home seller wants to know how to make their home more inviting to potential buyers. We know a thing or two about creating comfortable, inviting outdoor spaces for living, so we teamed up with Lisa Stitt, Senior Stager at Oklahoma Impressions Home Staging for an insider’s look at making your outdoor spaces irresistible to prospective buyers.

“Your outdoor spaces are really an extension of your indoor living space,” Stitt said. “Keep your back windows open and clean, and always remind them when they’re inside that there is more ‘home’ outside.”
Speaking of clean, Stitt says the first step in preparing any outdoor space for a viewing is to make sure it’s clean and uncluttered. This includes putting away pool hoses, hiding lawn tools, and stashing those bags of fertilizer. “It is imperative that it looks maintenance free,” she said.

That cleaning includes a thorough scrubbing of your patio furniture – even if it’s not traditional patio weather. Cold weather shouldn’t stop you from creating an outdoor space that looks ready to use. For tips on cleaning your patio furniture, check out our patio furniture cleaning guide.

For Stitt, just freshening your patio furniture can be a huge boost. New cushions can be just the thing to delight the visitors viewing your home.

When you’re arranging your furniture, remember that less can be more. Be sure not to block any pathways into or out of the space, and avoid clutter at all cost. “Don’t be afraid to take out some pieces of furniture. It doesn’t take a lot to look clean and comfortable and clutter-free,” Stitt said.

For Stitt, the goal should be to arrange the space like you’re having a party – comfortable, but easy to move around in.
